Universitat Rovira i Virgili

Welcome

The Department of Medicine and Surgery (DMC) aims to develop qualified teaching and research in health sciences. This objective complements the healthcare work carried out by its members in the different hospitals and primary healthcare teaching centres of the Rovira i Virgili University (URV). The DMC is structured into 18 functional units, which correspond to different areas of knowledge. The DMC is responsible for an important part of the teaching in the three courses taught at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences: the Degrees in Medicine, in Physiotherapy and in Nutrition and Human Dietetics. The teaching of Medicine is mainly given in University hospitals and other affiliated centres, while the Degrees in Physiotherapy and Nutrition and Human Dietetics are essentially given to the Faculty itself. As far as research is concerned, the DMC has consolidated groups, groups recognised by the URV, clinical-experimental research units, laboratories and its own research staff to develop its projects. The following lines of research are relevant: diabetes, lipids and arteriosclerosis, psychiatry, genetics, nutrition and alcoholic liver disease.
